Social Media Trends That Will Take Over in 2022

Social media in today’s time is different than what it was a few years ago. Interactions on social media platforms go beyond status updates and comments. It’s more about growing digital communities and setting up online trade. And while the never-ending social media updates and new features can be overwhelming, they sure are a great way of experimenting and connecting with an audience in different ways.

2021 was a revolutionary year for technology and paved way for new social media trends to break out. So, what’s in the store for us in 2022? From improving mental health to laughing at new memes, we’re going to see some interesting social media trends on this horizon in 2022.

Let’s take a look at social media trends that will take over in 2022!

  • The Influencer Industry Will Boom
  • Boost in Social Commerce
  • A Boost in Meme Accounts
  • A Better Focus on Mental Health
  • A Rise in LinkedIn Influencers
  • No Filter Aesthetic
    • To Wrap It Up

The Influencer Industry Will Boom

As more and more social media platforms take over the e-commerce space, it only makes sense to invest in influencer marketing. Finding the right creators who are growing communities and driving engagement is a good way to promote your brand. The influencer community is anything but oversaturated right now. The industry has seen thousands of creators make a name for themselves and grow tremendously within a span of only one to two years.

The creator economy is just getting started and it’s here to stay. Platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok, and even LinkedIn are investing heavily in creator marketing and tools. These tools and technologies help creators engage and connect better with their audience as well as help them collaborate with brands.

Boost in Social Commerce

Up until a few years ago, no one would’ve thought about selling products on social media platforms. It seemed like a far-fetched dream. But thanks to technological advancements and communication technologies, social commerce became a reality. Social commerce can be defined as a subset of eCommerce where everything from product marketing, product delivery to click-to-purchase, and customer support happens on social media.

It’s nothing short of a revolution. How we shop online has changed forever, thanks to social commerce. Most people hop onto Instagram to discover new products and brands, and many people are now more than ever encouraged to start their own business on social media. Instagram and Facebook have become stores in a virtual mall powered by social media. With just a single tap or click, we find products, discover new brands, and purchase our favorite items. Talk about a virtual revolution.

As a result of this revolution, social media platforms are also recognizing the importance of social commerce tools. Instagram, for example, has introduced Instagram shops to simplify web-store development on the platform as well as Instagram Checkout to enable Instagram users to make purchases directly on the platform. Another example is Pinterest which allows users to browse and shop for items via product Pins through the Shop tab.

2022 is bound to see some revolutionary shopping features on multiple social media platforms to bridge the gap between brands and consumers.

A Boost in Meme Accounts

We all love a good meme, don’t we? They’re funny, direct, and subtle, and they make us laugh a ton. We predict 2022 is going to be the year where memes – images and videos both – will have an even bigger influence. Instagram is home to some of the best niche meme accounts, from social media woes to astrology, we’ve seen hundreds and thousands of them.

One of the biggest meme accounts on the platform, Saint Hoax even partnered with the Met Gala last year to cover the event as a meme correspondent. Memes use trends to start conversations and connect creators and brands with their audience in a fantastic way. And the best part about memes? They don’t have to be fancy. A simple image or a video with a single line of text can create waves. In short? Memes aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

A Better Focus on Mental Health

According to several reports, more than half of the creators in today’s time have thought about quitting social media. This is because of the pressure to always curate content, the stress of dealing with trolls and hate comments, and frequent digital burnout. We’ll see many conversations striking on the relationship with social media and its impact on us this year.

Instagram is also testing a feature called ‘Take a Break’ in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. It reminds the user of taking breaks after their chosen duration on the app. It’s also expected to offer expert-backed tips on how to utilize the break to refresh your mind and relieve any stress. We’re curious to see how these social media platforms will take part in the growing conversation and how they respond.

A Rise in LinkedIn Influencers

While we already discussed how the influencer community will only grow from here on, we didn’t expect LinkedIn influencers to become a thing. But it’s 2022 and we’ve seen all sorts of crazy and unexpected things happen. LinkedIn launches its first creator program called Creator Accelerator in 2021. They want everyone to know that you can’t sleep on LinkedIn. It’s focusing on its creator community and the potential and power they have on the platform.

They decided to do this right after they noticed how the transition to remote working last year, empowered a lot of people on the platform to create their brand. LinkedIn is a great way to increase your professional reach, broaden your horizons, connect with like-minded people, and boost visibility in the corporate sector. We predict that 2022 will see a huge rise in the number of LinkedIn creators and professionals growing their network and personal brands on the platform.

No Filter Aesthetic

The conversation of going filter-free on social media is trending for 2 years now. Now more than ever, influencers and brands are focusing on creating less-filtered and more ‘natural’ content. The need to build a perfectly aesthetic feed was an added pressure for creators and brands. The shift to focus more on authenticity has also seen users share more authentic and ‘in the moment’ content on their feed. We predict and hope that brands and creators stop with the picture-perfect perception online and foster meaningful relationships with their audiences by being authentic.
